Charging at home is what gets you the home rate: about $88 a month for this car at 35 miles a day, against about $144 if every mile came from public fast chargers. A wall outlet can cover a short commute; a Level 2 charger refills a full day of driving overnight. These three cover the common choices, based on published specs and owner reviews.

This calculator multiplies your vehicle's EPA-rated efficiency (kWh per 100 miles) by your daily mileage to determine energy consumption, then applies your state's residential electricity rate from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Whatever share you charge at public DC fast chargers is priced at $0.54 per kWh, the US average paid at public fast chargers excluding free sessions (Paren, Q3 2026). EPA efficiency is measured from the wall plug, so charging losses are already inside the kWh figure; we do not add them twice.
Vehicle efficiency ratings come from the EPA's FuelEconomy.gov database, which tests every EV sold in the U.S. under standardized conditions. Electricity rates are EIA state-level residential averages updated annually. Real-world efficiency varies by 10-20% from EPA ratings depending on driving conditions, temperature, and speed.
At the national average electricity rate of 18.19¢/kWh, charging a typical EV with a 60 kWh battery from empty to full costs about $10.91. Most daily charging sessions cost $2–5 depending on how far you drive, since most people only charge 20–40% of the battery each night.
